There are three types of visits that you can book within the Women's Health Program.
1. Pap test/Wellness Check. Well-women visits can include cervical screening (Pap test), coordination of other age and risk appropriate screening (e.g. mammograms), and updates to immunizations. All of our care is provided in consultation with your primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner).
2. Prenatal. Pregnant women can have prenatal check-ups with one of our expert prenatal nurses. Health teaching will be of paramount importance with a focus on the stages of pregnancy and the health of both mom and baby. In the later stages of pregnancy you will be connected with the provider that you choose to bring your child into the world. After delivery, one of our well baby nurses will be thrilled to meet your new family member (see the Children's Health Program page)
3. Sexual Health & Contraceptive Care. A THFHT nurse will talk to you about contraception and sexual health. In a welcoming and confidential space you can discuss your needs and choices, get information from trusted sources, and access appropriate screening. We will also address any concerns or problems that you are having and arrange treatments, prescriptions or referrals if needed. All care is private and confidential. Patients must be over age 14 years to book.
How to book Women's Health Program Appointments?
THFHT also has patient resource pages with information on reproductive health and healthy living on this website . These pages can be viewed by anyone, not just THFHT patients.
No. THFHT patients can call the clinic themselves and book an appointment.
You can still book appointments with your doctor or nurse practitioner provider. Some doctors or NPs may encourage you to book with the nurse-led programs as their care is expert and excellent. Accessing nursing care is the best use of our team of professionals.
No but you can book and appointment with your health care provider (doctor or nurse practitioner).
THFHT Prenatal RN's can will see you in the first two trimesters of your pregnancy. Care in the last trimester is typically provided by the Midwife or Obstetrician that you choose to deliver your baby. Deliveries typically happen in Peterborough, Belleville, Cobourg or in home-births with Midwives. We are working towards building relationships with providers to see what we can bring to Trent Hills.
Yes. We have a Screening & Prevention program where men and women aged 50 to 75 years can book with an RN. We have other programs, such as Heart Health and Older Adult Primary Care, where THFHT patients can book appointments with an RN. You can read all about these programs on this website in the program section.
A THFHT patient is any patient who is enrolled to the practices of Dr. James Read, Dr. Dan Sheps, Dr. Paul Williams, Dr. Kelly Parks, Dr. Emily Beyls, Dr. Elias Maraghi, NP Samantha Dalby, NP Laurie Deviney, NP Carole Robichaud, NP Stasia Bennett, NP Colleen Lewis.
Unfortunately, no. However, you can visit the page on this website for people who are not a THFHT patient and read about how to access screening tests elsewhere. Please visit 'Not A THFHT Patient'.
THFHT formally recognizes the traditional keepers of this land and, specifically our neighbours of the Alderville First Nation, with a formal territorial acknowledgement. We reside on the Gunshot Treaty Lands of 1788. On these lands and on the shores of the big lake, the Mississauga Anishinabeg
(A-NISH-IN-NAW-BEK) met with the Crown to facilitate the opening of these lands for settlement. Let us be reminded of the responsibility we all have in making sure that we respect these lands and waters that give us life and sustain our livelihoods.
